Bacteriostatic Water is a sterile, nonpyrogenic preparation of water containing 0.9% (9 mg/mL) benzyl alcohol added as a bacteriostatic preservative. It is intended for use strictly as a diluent or solvent in laboratory settings.
This solvent is designed for the reconstitution of lyophilized peptides for research and development applications. Because it contains a preservative, the reconstituted solutions may have an extended shelf life compared to those reconstituted with plain sterile water.
